"Aiden, Aiden! Put your hand here. No, right here!" Annaliese Carmichael was radiating with joy, the smile on her face made her seem to shine so brightly in the dim light of the room. Aiden put his hand lightly on the spot his wife had pointed out. "That's our baby. They's my little girl," she added with a twinkle in her eye.
"So we're having a girl?" Aiden questioned with a light laugh. "Well, that sounds about right, as long as she's healthy, and as long as she has your eyes."
"And as long as she has your smile," Anna added, leaning up off the chair to kiss the man she loved.

"Aiden! You promised! You promised me that they would never enter this house while I or my child lived in it!" Anna cried, staring weepy-eyed at her husband from across the bedroom.
"He's only coming for a polite visit!" Aiden insisted, moving closer and trying to convince his young wife that the situation would be under control.
"You know his allegiance. You know where his loyalties lie!" Annaliese argued. "You--" She buckled over, a hand flying to her belly. "Aiden..." she whispered, looking up at her husband with a pained expression on her face.

He sat by her bedside, his head down as his body shook with his sobs.
"I'm sorry," he whispered quietly, reaching a hand out to cover hers as it laid on her stomach, rising and falling just slightly along with her even breathing. "I'm so sorry, Anna. It's all my fault...I'll never let anything hurt you again..."

"Aiden! Aiden!!" Annaliese called from the foyer. "I have the most exciting news!" She was glowing as she hurried up to the library where she knew Aiden would be.
"Darling, I have wonderful news!" she exclaimed as he rose from his chair to greet her.
"I'm pregnant," she whispered happily.

"Beautiful," Aiden said quietly to his wife as she lay on the hospital bed, rocking their newborn son in her arms.
"Our dear Edward," she cooed lovingly before kissing the baby's forehead. "He has your eyes," she whispered to Aiden, her eyes twinkling brightly.
"He has your smile," Aiden whispered back.
