LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION

Name: Lita

Age: 22

Location: PST, specifically in HB, CA, otherwise known as The OC. But I’m about ten minutes away from the beach and I love it. =)

Where did you hear about this community? mostly from [livejournal.com profile] fyrestar1, who rocks muchly—who’s also rather annoying--and poked the living fuck out of me until I said yes. Also, in alphabetical order, [livejournal.com profile] a_leprechaun, [livejournal.com profile] jdezredel, [livejournal.com profile] lanthiriel, [livejournal.com profile] roguebelle, and [livejournal.com profile] scytheandroses

How much time are you willing to invest in this community? As much as necessary, if not more. I’m a proud dork who has no life and is on the computer when not at work. =)

PART 1 – Canon

1. Have you read all the books? Have read and OWN them, as well as the texts Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them

2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house.
Gryffindor - Brash and oftentimes spontaneous, but usually with good intention. While Gryffindors aren’t always known for being the smartest, or even the strongest, of people, they are almost always willing to do what is best for the situation. In that light, they often don’t stop to think about the fact that what they’re doing is often times against the rules, or might be breaking some sort of law. However, as stated before, they’re always of good intention and will practically never be running off and breaking said rule for their own fortune.

Slytherin - While the majority of them are portrayed as evil and sinister, that doesn’t mean the entirety of their house is. Thus, they are called the sly and cunning, not the cruel and unusual, though some of them could be termed unusual. The Slytherins, along with the Gryffindors, also have somewhat of a disregard for the rules, but are a bit less open about it. They usually try not to get caught, yet when they go off on an “adventure”, they’re more likely to do it so as to gain something for themselves instead of for others.

Hufflepuff - Loyal, hard working, though not at all quiet as the stereotypes might think. Hufflepuffs can actually be quite loquacious and sometimes obnoxious, but when it’s for a good and just cause, or for a friend, they’ll go to whatever lengths to ensure that justice is served. They can also be a little naïve in their blind loyalties, but when their perspective is corrected they’re quick to admit they were wrong. They’re not afraid to work at something if it will get them the honest results they were looking for and they’re not afraid to speak up when they think something is wrong. Hufflepuffs can be quite fair and quite just when they put their minds to it.

Ravenclaw - Ravenclaws are the often the brainiacs of the Hogwarts bunch. They’re the ones who most people see in libraries with their noses in books. But wit and learning doesn’t always mean bookworms and perfect grades. Tests and homework assignments and grades are simply society’s way of measuring knowledge and comparing it to everyone else. But learning doesn’t always mean that you have to go along with society’s method of knowledge measurement. A great many people know a great many things and never once stepped foot into a classroom.

3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and why? pretzels. I’m completely addicted to pretzels, the dough and the salt and the yumminess of it all. =)

4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would you preferably play and why? Beater. There’s something rather liberating about being able to hit metal balls at people without having to worry about extreme repercussions. It’s also very gratifying if you know you’re the one who protected your team mates from something painful. As for the others? Seeker is too passive, all they do is dodge and fly, squinting for something small and shiny. Chasers get in on the action, but working with more than one person gets a bit aggravating sometimes. As for Keeper, I’m not the best multi-tasker. Keeping an eye on three hoops and three different balls (quaffle and 2 bludgers?), yeah, so not happening. >_<

5. What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it is textually proven otherwise? I haven’t heard very many of them, but a few of the Conspiracies out there seem a bit farfetched. I agree, though, with [livejournal.com profile] roguebelle’s theory about McGonagall and Figg possibly being sisters. I think that’s the only one that I’d actually take without the grain of salt, aside from most of the ones I’ve heard already being discredited by JKR herself. =)

6. What is your favourite book aside from HP and why? A Ring of Endless Light by Madelein L’Engle. It’s so poetic yet, full of raw emotion and very much down to earth. L’Engle’s characterisations are fabulous.

7. What would your Room of Requirement look like? Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid’s hut, my Room of Requirements would be nothing more than a small, quiet room with nothing but a small bookshelf full of books, a bean bag chair, a set of drawing pencils and a sketchpad. And music playing softly in the background. There wouldn’t be any colour, just black all around, and the books would just be an assortment of my favourites, which range from Greek Mythology to children’s books to Christian fiction. Drawing pencils would also include coloured pencils, because I enjoy random sketching, although I do have a preference for Disney scenes. And the music in the background would be a mix of my favourites, ranging from musical theatre to rock to dance/pop to jazz, etc.

8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design. 13” of Weeping Willow. According to this site here, the Weeping Willow is “beautiful but full of melancholy, attractive, very empathetic, loves anything beautiful and tasteful, loves to travel, dreamer, restless, capricious, honest, can be influenced but is not easy to live with, demanding, good intuition, suffers in love but finds sometimes an anchoring partner.” While I wouldn’t call myself beautiful or attractive, I’m quite the empathy as well as a lover of all things beautiful and tasteful—food is one of my loves—and I absolutely love the idea of travelling. I’m most definitely a dreamer—though in daydreams only—and am quite restless, sleep eludes me. Honesty is important to me and I like to believe that my intuition is usually pretty good. As for being demanding, I’m only demanding when I know that someone can give more. The core of my wand would be dragon heart string, specifically speaking, one from a Swedish Short Snout. According to Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, the Short Snout has a flame of brilliant blue, reducing wood and bone to ash in a matter of seconds. They’re supposedly aggressive, but because they prefer the wild and uninhabited mountainous regions, their few killings of humans has little sway in that decision. As mentioned many times before, I prefer being away from highly inhabited areas, as well as having a temper firey enough to keep people away from me, though that doesn’t show very often.

10. Who is your role model and why? Not necessarily a role model, per se, but more someone I admire. I think Angelina Jolie has a spectacular life and that she does some amazing things for the world. Not only is she a beautiful woman and a talented actor, but she has quite a leading role in aiding the third world countries. She even went so far as to adopt children from them as well. She’s supposedly very nice to her fans as well and extremely down to earth. But really, I much prefer to believe that people shouldn’t need role models to find meaning in their lives. Call it extreme individualism if you will, but I believe that people should figure out who they are and what their lives mean before they start trying to live someone else’s life. *shrugs *

11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your life? To simply have lived. To do anything that I wanted to do in my life and to not have many regrets in regard to the things I have done. What things you ask? Things like, travelling, learning a completely new language perhaps, going on a safari, deep sea scuba diving, getting a ferret for a pet, visiting the Ancient Wonders of the World or simply making my move from the West Coast to the East Coast.

12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your countrymen? Countrymen. No questions asked. I’ve lived with my kin for 22 years. I trust them and I know that all of them would feel the same about me. I may complain that they’re horrid a lot of the time, but I’m still closer to them than I am to my countrymen.

13. What would your animagus be and why? panthera onca, otherwise known as the Jaguar. They are solitary animals, yet can live in many different habitats. I myself prefer to stay alone as opposed to being around people, but I can move to any type of environment and live there without too much problem. Unlike the cheetah and the lion, panthers stalk and ambush their prey, whereas the other large cats will chase them. In other words, they put time and thought into their methods in order to obtain what they want. They prefer areas closer to water, and are good swimmers. I also prefer areas near water and love to swim—I’d much more prefer to live near the ocean than move inland. They are also mistaken for other large cats, most often the leopard, because of their similar skin patterns. I’m asian, but often am mistaken for Hawai’ian. >_<

14. What would your patronus be and why? Lion, hands down. The protective figures in my life have always shown a tendency to prefer large crowds, being socially active. They are also fond of children, as male lions are fond of cubs. The adult male lion also has an instinctual ability to keep from inflicting an abnormally large amount of physical injury to others when in violent confrontations. As would say my father, as well as many of my male acquaintances, the best way to go about it would be to be as harsh as necessary, but as painless as possible.

15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the wizarding world and why? The Invisibility Task Force. The idea of disappearing into the shadows or simply disappearing altogether from the world while still being able to view it has always been a fascination. To make something, or someone do such a thing and then being able to say that it was my work would be quite a thrill. Including protective agents and Privacy Charms would be an added bonus.
