There is one other thing that I've thought of that's extremely farfetched and TOTALLY grasping at straws, but it's something that I've definitely thought about lately, especially since I refuse to believe that Dumbledore is really dead. *cries*
DON'T START YELLING AT ME!! I know it's completely random and totally whacked to say it, but why not? We know that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945. Also, during the 40s, Tom Riddle Jr., aka Lord Voldemort, was building his army of DEs and still learning the beginnings of the Dark Arts, and also learning of the horcrux.
I have a point I swear. Everyone associates Dumbledore with the phoenix. It would only make sense for him to "rise from the ashes" as so many phoenixes are supposed to do. For him to do this then, it would only make sense that he would have a horcrux. And even if he didn't mean to do it for seeking immortality, or to use the Dark Arts simply to use them, he couldn't help but kill Grindelwald in order to defeat him, right? So he killed Grindelwald, and created his own horcrux knowing that eventually another Dark Lord was going to rise in the form of Tom Riddle? He's powerful, this we know, and he knows he's powerful and that other people know that he is. Perhaps another prophesy that we have yet to hear?
We know that Albus Dumbledore knows a helluvalot more than he ever let on. Maybe he knows more about the horcruxes than he let on. The only reason he wanted Slughorn's memory is to find out how much Tom Riddle knows about horcruxes.
Meh...I have to get ready for work...but I'm going to think more on this later...
