So, I finally saw OotP. Glad I did, and totally glad I waited til I didn't have to wait forever in a line for it. Spoilers ahead!
Sooooo...
Things I liked:
--Dan Radcliffe's acting. He's developed sooooo much and I actually didn't cringe at a lot of the scenes. Harry's lack of emo-ness was cool too.
--SFX. Way of the cool. The veil effect, the patronuses...I guess I like that shimmery not quite there look.
--Ginny jealousy. Totally hilarious. The sideglances and everything. Oh, and her obvious amount of power. Girl power what? *snickers*
--"...but you've got to admit, Dumbledore does have style." LOVE that line.
--The ending. It felt like closure while still giving that feeling of "there's more out there..." even though we all know there's more out there.
--The DA meetings. It was great watching all of them developing these skills and yay for shiny patronuses! And love the whole "OMG Neville got a spell down!" scene. Yay Neville!
--The RoR in general. Way of the awesome! The door disappearing and everything, it was totally cool.
--THESTRALS LIKE WHOA. They did so well with those; I was totally afraid they were going to fuck them up royally.
--I LOVE EVANNA LYNCH. I don't necessarily enjoy how high pitched she sounded, because that's not how I envision a "dreamy" voice to be...but whatever. It worked.
--Neville and his backbone. "That's because they're about to be avenged!" Awe to the some, what? Hope to see more of him in future films.
--Imelda Staunton did a fantastic job. Creepy little bitch.
--Black Family Tree with the faces. That was way of the cool. Major props to the art department/tech crew/whoever it was who had to make that.
--Jason Isaacs. 'Nuff said.
--the shinyness of the Ministry. WAY AWESOME.
Things I didn't like:
--Still don't like frickin' Michael Gambon. Hate hate hate. May I pleeeeease resurrect Richard Harris?
--I was expecting Arabella Figg to be a little more of a spitfire...kinda closer to McGonagall in personality...but the role was played decently, at least.
--They made the dementors a little more...raggedy in this one...cloth cloaks were shorter and full of more holes...whatever, it was an okay change
--The whole flash-by scene thing. You know how they kept jumping from newspaper to newspaper clipping, or from decree to decree...they way overused that little bit. Major annoyance. I mean, I know it was used to show a lot of time passing...but come on! Find another way!
--Lack of Peeves. I'm guessing they left him out because they were gearing toward a darker movie and he would've lightened it a lot.
--Focusing too much on the IS trying to find the DA and on the decrees. I mean...there are a few that needed to be shown...not frickin' all of them.
--Lack of Quidditch. What's up with the Ron hatin' man? That's his moment to shine. Forget that one little bit of cleverness, "Ron. That was really clever." "Yeah, happens once in a while." or however the exchange went. Ginny gets to blow things up and Ron gets a bit of cleverness? Bitches.
--LACK OF BAT BOGEY HEX. If you're going to give a girl her power, don't leave out her signature weapon!! Mad as hell. I mean, how easy would it have been to show the bat bogey instead of a pile of ash on the floor? Jeebus man.
--Kissing under the mistletoe? Cliche much? Ick. And what happened to the peck?
--Cho ratting out the DA with veritaserum. Marietta = Kingsley pwning Marietta = awesome Dumbledore escape. Not that the whole "I'm going to clap and then me and my phoenix are going to disappear" bit wasn't cool...but I would've prefered the silver jetstream and then the disappearing act. Like in the book? You know, the thing you based the movie on?
--Legilimency/Occlumency. Yeah it was cool that it was added. AGAIN WITH THE FLASHY OWWWW MY EYES FAST MOVING PICTURE THING. Stop it dude, it hurts. I like that they added Snape's Worst Memory...don't like how they did it or how fast it happened. I imagined it being a little slower. It was like "blurry picture blurry picture, focus on James, blurry picture, done". I want a little substance please?
--Bellatrix Lestrange. Yeah, Helena BC is cool and all...but, if you're gonna let a woman go crazy, let her fuckin' go crazy. I don't think her scenes were well done at all. Maybe it was the writing, maybe it was the directing, maybe it was the acting. Maybe it was because I was expecting more. Kind of a let down. That and she would never cower like that I don't care if she's trying to get Harry to curse her again or not. She's the one who taunts him she's the one who tells him he has to want it.
--Sirius's death. What the FUCKING HELL?! The AK? I don't remember who out there said it, but I totally want JKR to twist it so that Sirius comes back in the end to help out. Whatcha gonna do about that bitches?! Hells yeah.
--The posession scene. OMG with the flash-by shit again. WAY OVERDONE. And I'm sorry...that could've been written so much better.
--AT THE BEGINNING WHERE'S MY FUCKING CHAMELEON CHARM BITCHES?!?! OMG. If you're gonna include the Guard, include their magic? Don't just make brooms appear out of nowhere. And with the flying in front of a large boat thing? It's just not done. *sighs* Invisibility is the way of the future. Why does no one get this?
--Nymphadora Tonks. WTF WITH NO EXPLANATION? How easy is it to add a minute of exchange? Nymphadora changes hair colour/nose/whatever. Harry gives funny look. Nymphadora smiles and says "I'm an metamorphmagus, born with the ability to change my appearance at will without a wand" and then Harry goes "Ooooooooh" and they all fly off. DUH.
--The fighting in the Ministry. I mean, it's cool effects and all, but it could've been done with less. What're they gonna do when the seventh movie comes out? That's gonna be all effects and no dialogue. *mutters* Morons. Anyway, the whole fighting mid-apparition deal? WHAT THE DEALIO MAN?! And then with the wordless spells, it looked like even Harry was doing it too when Sirius and Harry both were fighting Lucius. OH. And what's the deal with Sirius calling Harry James? So not necessary if they're not gonna include the part earlier where Mrs. Weasley calls him out on thinking of Harry as more of a playmate than a godson. Jeebus. And then with the duel. Make it longer, make it less swirly "huh?" and more blasting "oooooh..."
--Grimmauld place scenes in general. There's so much more to what they had.
--Lack of prefecty goodness. Again with the Ron hating. Give the boy his due, man. Just cause he's already "died" for his friend does not mean he needs to be removed from focus.
--DEs and theirwhite theatre-type masks? WTF. And Voldemort. I love Ralph Fiennes, but I despise what they've done to Voldemort. I don't know. I have a different personification of evil in my brain and I'll stick to that THANK YOU.
--Centaurs and Grawp look way CGI. I mean, come on, it's HARRY FUCKING POTTER(tm) yo. I'm sure Warner Bros. and whoever else can afford better CGI. They made a freaking dragon out of fireworks, I'm sure they can make Grawp look a little less like an overgrown mutated elf and a little more like a big scary giant like he's supposed to be.
--The ending. The conversation between Dumbledore and Harry was...ridiculous.
So...yeah...I had a lot of problems with changes and alterations and leaving things out and whatnot, but in general, it's a good movie for being a movie and nothing else...
