Pick a door, any door...

Okay, so I'm at a sort of impasse as to what I should begin to read next...I've been neglecting my 50 Books List, and I've had a time deciding which direction to go in next. While I've been trying to decide--for the past week--I've been rereading the Kushiel's Legacy series and falling in love with Phedre and Joscelin again. But I can't choose where to go next. Any suggestions?

Have you read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyers?

Also one of my very favorite series The Wayfarer Redemption series by Sara Douglass is amazing.

Like I was really going to say anything else? ASoIaF and HDM are both spectacular and should be read, but you are just under-educated if you haven't become acquainted with Billy Shakes. At least read a couple of plays before moving on to something else. Then, like, intersperse them with other readings.

I'm sure there is. ;) I'd start with one of the easy, fairly accessible ones -- A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet are both pretty easy reads. R&J was the first one I ever read. As You Like It is fairly accessible, too -- I know that one gets done in lots of middle schools, we did it in the 7th grade. My personal favourite play is Much Ado About Nothing, which I think is the wittiest and has the best love story overall. I would not start with Hamlet or Othello, or you'll want to stab your eyes out.

Get an edition with lots of footnotes -- those can really help if you find yourself tripping over unfamiliar words or weird phrases.

You might try "No Fear Shakespeare" -- I've flipped through these in the store, and they basically have the Shakespeare on one side, and a translation on the other. The passages I looked at seemed pretty faithful.

But that sounds like an idea...might have to go looking for one of those...
