Title: Out of the Corner of My Eye
Author:
hazy_reflection
House: Ravenclaw
Date/Challenge: 4 November 2005 // I faint, I yield
Character/Pairing: Ron/Hermione implied...I guess...
Genre/Warnings (as applicable): I dunno if I'd call it...fluff...
Rating: G
'I think I may faint the day that Ronald Weasley finally finds the courage he needs to finally ask me...' Hermione thinks as she walks down the hallway. She doesn't turn her head, but her eyes blink upward, swiftly, a movement no one would notice unless they were watching her for it. She shifts her two heavy books in her arms, a hint of a smile coming to her lips when she imagines the day Ron realises that the books are actually really heavy and offers to carry them for her. The bit of smile leaves her lips just as quickly as it has come, now replaced by a frown as Ron laughs at a horrid joke that pokes fun of house elves. She keeps watching him out of the corner of her eye, realising that he, in turn, is watching her.
Ron is walking beside Hermione as they make their way down the hallway towards their next class. He is silent, but the smirk on his face and the shine in his eyes is still laughing. He knows that Hermione doesn't like it when house elves are mistreated, but can he help it when someone tells a good joke? Out of the corner of his eye he looks down at her face and he can tell that she is frowning. He doesn't even have to look at her straight on to tell that she is. The slight downward curve of her eyebrows is a sure sign. It's hard to tell from the side, but sometimes, when he watches her eyebrows as she frowns, they look as though they are bowing to each other. And then there's the way her eyelashes dip just slightly as her eyes narrow. It's not hard to miss that; there's just something about her eyelashes that he can't help but watch them when they move. His gaze moves down her slightly pink cheeks and then to the slight upcurve of her lips as the corners of her mouth move downward. He wants to smile, because underneath the stern exterior he sees something that's lovely and sweet and desireable. But no, she is frowning and it is not something to smile about.
They reach the classroom and come to a halt as they silently try to decide who should enter the room first. Ron contemplates going in first, just so he doesn't have to watch Hermione in her little fuss over the joke, but he steps back and yields to her.
